McNeice, Mary
August 1, 1927 - June 6, 2025On Friday June 6, 2025 Mary McNeice (nee Gilmore) died in Guelph, Ontario, at the Wellington Hospice, two months shy of her 98th birthday. Predeceased by her husband Len and her daughter Terri. She will be sorely missed by her surviving children Barb Smyth (both Bobs deceased), Leonard (Laverne), Steve (Lee), Bill (Liz), David (Caroline), Peter (Joni), and Claudette Bartley (John deceased). Gramma and Great Gramma will also be greatly missed by her (15) grandchildren and (20) great grandchildren.
Mom would often tell us that she felt blessed to have lived such a long life, with a wonderful large family, and married to a great guy. However, reading obituaries over the years, Mom was adamant she didn’t want any flowery tributes about how wonderful or saintly she was. But at risk of earning a celestial frown from her, she was a truly authentic woman, a wonderful, feisty, and supportive example to her entire clan throughout her life. Always giving, always putting others first, always thinking of and contributing to the less fortunate, and always showing up. And always willing to try something even in her late 90s, including exotic foods, Google, her iPad, and Facebook (wondering who the devil all those people wanting to be her friends were!). We’ll miss every bit of you Mary McNeice!

As per Mary’s wishes, she has been cremated and a Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday June 19th at 10:30 am at Holy Rosary Church at 175 Emma Street, Guelph. Following the Mass there will be a reception at Victoria Park East Golf Club, 1096 Victoria Road South, Guelph. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate in Mary’s memory, please donate to Hospice Wellington (www.hospicewellington.org) whose staff and facilities were an enormous comfort to her and her family in her last days with us.
